News Log

This log is chronological. Sources are Spike Chunsoft posts, the official 2x2 site, Nintendo Directs, and on-the-record interviews (including Kodaka/Sakakibara with Crunchyroll). If a bullet is not on this page, we do not treat it as fact yet.

2025

September 12, 2025 — Announcement. Nintendo Direct shows Danganronpa 2x2 for Switch 2 and Switch “next year,” with PS5, Xbox Series, and Steam in the wider press. Pitch: remastered Goodbye Despair plus a new scenario with different victims and culprits. Teaser ID M8LGot_GCEE.

October 24, 2025 — Japanese Monokuma recast. Wasabi Mizuta (Doraemon since 2005) is named. The role had passed from Nobuyo Oyama to Tarako; Tarako died in 2024. This is the first mainline game with Mizuta in the suit. Greeting clip LUlWICZP9XM sits on the Monokuma page.

November 28, 2025 — Japanese Monomi recast. Kinuta Oshiro (大代キヌ太) replaces the late Takako Sasuga. Greeting clip bpCwG90xKeM. Dedicated notes: Monomi.

November 29, 2025 — Special Trial Version at the 15th Anniversary Fes in Tokyo. Booth ROM, not a store demo. Spike later indicated the event mystery would not ship as-is. See trial guide.

2026

February 10, 2026 — Collector trailer. Psycho Tropical Vacation Package ($139.99) shown: hat, Kidrobot figures, OST, clamshell, platform choice including a Steam key card. Video FH1mei6HE28.

March 10, 2026 — English cast. All listed Goodbye Despair English actors return for both scenarios. Video Qty8bfPimcU. Table lives on the roster.

April 6–May 29, 2026 — Producer AMA. Spike hosted questions for Shohei Sakakibara; answers posted in three YouTube parts (g61FC2XUvG8, r4ATq_uJjys, lPENOAqH7jk). Treat jokes as flavor, not patch notes. Part 3 is on returning players.

July 3, 2026 — Delay + Slayhem + map. Spike Chunsoft names Slayhem as the new mode and describes the 3D World Map. Producer Shohei Sakakibara’s letter: the team had been aiming at 2026, launch moves to early 2027 to keep polishing. Both modes selectable from the start. This is also when a lot of Western coverage first printed the 30 vs 35 hour split from interviews.

August 26, 2026 — Switch 2 physical format. Spike Chunsoft: Switch 2 ships on a Game-Key Card in all regions. US Spike-store Vacation Switch 2 orders cancelled (reorder GKC). UK/EU Spike orders kept, fulfilled as GKC. Other retailers keep orders as GKC. Switch 1 cart and PS5 disc unchanged. Full buying translation: Game-Key Card.

September 4, 2026 — TGS 2026 playable. Famitsu: Mouse Computer booth (Hall 8, 08-N06) plus Happinet photo spot (Hall 5, 06-N04), September 17–21. Not a home demo.

September 9, 2026 — Date lock. January 14, 2027 for NA/EU (and printed on the English official site). Introduction trailer kaYwJ6wq5cs. JP intro c8FQVURlhxU. Nintendo JP Direct clip XKV9J0zY3lY. Standard $59.99 restated. JP MSRP ¥6,800+tax / ¥7,480 tax-in. Digital pre-order bonus copy: 100 Monocoins + Jabberwock Island Souvenir Set. Official products page also lists Digital Deluxe at $79.99 (Photo Studio, galleries, Special Trial Version; app not sold separately) — see Deluxe. Famitsu noted a new Class Trial system name in the JP Direct (議論コレクト) for Slayhem; we will document rules after a public build, not from a 60-second spot.

What the delay letter actually promised

Sakakibara did not promise extra modes beyond Slayhem. He promised more time. The features announced alongside the delay (named Slayhem, 3D map, both modes from the start) are the features you should expect on release day, not a secret third campaign.

Interview crumbs worth keeping

  • Kodaka: internal title talk went from “Take 2” to “2x2.”
  • Kodaka: Slayhem is a completely different story, about 120% of Original’s volume.
  • Sakakibara: Original ~30 hours, Slayhem ~35.
  • Future DR1 or V3 “2x2” treatments are sales-dependent, not announced.

Corrections we will keep making

  • Not Roblox. Not a codes game.
  • Not out in 2026. Upcoming, January 14, 2027.
  • Not a two-player title. Player count 1.
  • Not a tiny DLC. Slayhem is a second campaign.

When Steam, IGN, or a store widget disagrees with the official spec table, we side with danganronpa.com and Spike Chunsoft’s newsroom, then patch platforms if needed.

Next likely official beat: a gameplay deep-dive, a demo (unannounced), or a region-specific collector shipping update. Until then, the actionable pages are pre-order and editions.
